Summer is my favourite season: it’s the perfect time to head to the beach, socialise with friends and BBQ with loved ones. It’s also a great time of year to wear comfy thong sandals and stylish flowing summer kaftans. Summer is in full swing, and there are some summer fashion trends that will never go out of style. Just like our summer kaftans, we believe that style is eternal: if you invest in key fashion style pieces now, then you will be able to wear them season after season. With that in mind, here are some fashion style tips for summer that will help you ensure every outfit is a winner!

If you’re looking to inject some new additions into your wardrobe this summer then we will always recommend that you invest in classic designs and styles, rather than fast-fashion style trends. A well-fitting white tee will always have more longevity than that hashtag slogan tee, for example. The same rule of thumb applies to the quality of the items you choose: investing in higher quality classics now will ultimately save you money in the long run, as they will last year after year.
Choose light fabrics over form fitting fabrics if you want to stay cool during the warmer summer months. Summer and flowing fabrics go hand in hand; fabrics that float in the wind will leave you feeling cool and comfortable whilst form fitting fashion styles are more likely to make you feel hot and sweaty. What’s more, looser fabrics look more figure flattering and will be more forgiving year after year if you lose or gain a little weight, again, meaning that you’ll be able to invest now and wear them season after season. Summer kaftan dresses are perfect for this, as they are light, flowing, fashionable, and figure-flattering on women of all shapes and sizes.

Heavy and dark make up trends tend to be more popular in the cooler winter months, so in the summer it is time to leave those red lipsticks and dark, rich eye shadows at home. Instead opt for lighter, natural looking make up that will give your skin the room it needs to breathe and glow. Keep things light and dewy and invest in pretty neutral eyeshadows, tinted moisturisers and nude, pink, or rose stains and tinted balms that can be multi-functional and applied to lips and cheeks.
Summer fashion style should be practical as well as pretty, and the right hat can and should be both. Wearing a hat is one of the best things you can do to protect your head and face from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Look for a versatile hat that would look just as good at brunch or for a walk in the city as it will paired with your swimsuit and summer kaftan on the beach. Wide brim straw fedora and rancher-style hats are both good for this. Many women often say that hats don’t suit them: the truth is that they simply haven’t found the right hat yet! Visit your local milliner and keep experimenting with hats until you find the one that works best for you.

If you’re looking for fashion style pieces that you can buy now and wear year after year then you need to think carefully about the colours and patterns that you choose. Avoid this season’s hottest colour trends (mustard yellow is very popular this year, for example) and instead look for classic and timeless shades that are popular in summer, year after year. That doesn’t mean that your outfits have to be boring. Bright florals, pastel stripes, and anything with a nautical twist will always look great under the summer sun. If you do shy away from colour and pattern then look to neutral shades or richer colours such as navy or cobalt blue instead.
Finally, don’t be afraid to accessorise when dressing for summer, but think carefully about the pieces you choose! You may find that gold, silver, or other metallic jewellery will burn against your skin when they are warmed by the sun, so instead you should look for rustic wooden or beaded jewellery that will work perfectly in the hot weather. Consider choosing neutral colours, as they will match more of your summer outfits.
