Dressing in style is about so much more than looking great: it’s a state of mind!  If you dress for success and feel great everywhere you go then you’ll always be ready for whatever life throws at you.  After all, whether you’re looking for a new job or a new life partner, you never know who you might meet – or where you might meet them!

But how do you dress to impress?  And can dressing in style ever be comfortable too?  The simple answer is yes – if you choose the right dress!  Here’s everything you need to know about picking the right versatile dresses so that you’ll always be dressed for success:

The Modern Rules Of Dressing To Impress

First thing’s first: dressing to impress doesn’t mean you always have to wear a business suit and crisp shirt.  Nor does it mean feeling uncomfortable in high heels and an even higher hemline.  Modern women can impress without feeling uncomfortable or compromising who they are.

Everything we do is a form of communication, including the way we dress.  So what you really need to think about is this: what do you want your wardrobe to say about you?  A versatile dress is often the answer, as it allows us to reflect every aspect of our personality, and look appropriate for a myriad of occasions.

Look for a dress that fits your figure and makes you feel comfortable, skimming your curves rather than hugging them, so that you never feel self-conscious about your shape.  If you want a versatile dress that you can wear year-round then look for lightweight fabrics such as chiffon, silk and cotton.  These are breathable in the summer, but can be layered with blazers, fine knits and tights during the cooler winter months.

Call us biased, but we love kaftan dresses for this reason: they’re easy to dress up or down, and can be worn whatever the weather, making them a great choice if you want to dress in style.

When it comes to footwear, many women think that dressing to impress means wearing heels, but we all know that heels are about the least comfortable item in a woman’s wardrobe!  They’re fine for an hour or two at a black tie party or a date night (or anywhere you’re going to be mostly sitting down) but for the vast majority, walking around in heels all day just isn’t a viable option.

Have no fear: a good quality leather pump or ballet shoe will create exactly the same positive impression, but without any of the pain!  Coordinate your shoe to your dress and purse for a stylish, sleek look that will never go out of fashion.

On the subject of shoes, it may sound old fashioned but, make sure your shoes are always polished!  People instantly notice when someone is wearing dirty shoes, and it doesn’t make a good first impression.

Dressing In Style For The Office

If you’re less worried about impressing your husband, and more worried about dressing in style for your new boss, then you may be wondering how you could tweak your office wardrobe to make you look more stylish and successful.

The good news is that in all but the most formal office environments suiting is out and dresses are in.  Shift dresses remain popular, but these can be uncomfortable and restrictive, particularly for plus size women. Instead look for dresses constructed in much lighter materials.  Block, dark, colours remain popular amongst many businesswomen, particularly black, grey and navy blue, but increasing numbers of women are now choosing to inject brighter colours and patterns into their workwear wardrobes, to reflect their personalities.

This is particularly true if you work in a creative industry, or one where you are selling yourself and your services, as well as the company you work for.  Often people want to know who you are, and the clothes you wear are a great way to show this without even opening your mouth!

Accessories can also be helpful for injecting style and personality into your office attire. A well-chosen silk scarf, long line necklace, or understated pair of earrings will all add to your outfit without minimizing its level of formality.  You’ll be turning heads with your statement style in no time!
